As Spring has most definitely arrived, I have been out adding some more days to my mountain training logbook and trying to learn some new flora. I used to carry a variety of plant ID books round with me but this week trialled something different – Google Lens.
While this only really works when it’s not raining (a wet Google Pixel is probably not going to last very long) I have found the Lens app to be fantastic for accurate identification. For some reason the plants I was trying to find in the books were never there or I was stuck trying to decide between multiple plants. It caused more problems than it solved for me.
I managed to squeeze in a trip to Castle Hill, in Huddersfield, which is a modern day ‘folly’ (sort of like a tower) built on top of an old prehistoric hill fort.
I made a short video for YouTube, which I’ve added here if you want to see my progress – the sound quality could be a lot better for which I apologise! Still working on my tech skills.
