So how’s March and my goals list looking?

Another Winter QMD in the bag making nine in total (I had a massive purge of my logbook and kept only the absolute best days in as ‘quality’ – this will make for a better training/assessment). I’m also getting closer to choosing a suitable place on the Pennine Way for a lowland day. You might think this is almost pointless – why pick the Pennine Way as a first objective? Well, think about it for a minute. It’s largely at quite a high altitude for English hiking so figuring a lowland day is a great way to push the remits of the terrain within the scope of the scheme. Train hard, fight easy is very much my thinking with the award schemes.

I’m in the process of buying quite a few new maps and guidebooks to prepare for the lowland leader scheme. Needing a new map is a good sign that I’m actually exploring new territory and not just revisiting an old area.

I’m hoping to have gone through all the hiking awards with quality days on new maps which would be really cool. I think the Lowland, Hill and Moorland and Winter ML are possible within 100 months so I’m keen to see if it all works out.
