A little while ago, I stumbled across a copy of a book called The West Yorkshire Way by a chap called Nicholas Parrott in the local studies section of Huddersfield town library. I nearly continued browsing but I realised that I had never seen a way-marker for it, never seen it written on an OS map or heard of it before. And I’ve looked at a lot of maps, walked thousands of miles in West Yorkshire and know quite a few avid long distance walkers. Nobody had mentioned it. It is not even on the LDWA database. So I sat down and opened it.

I saw that his route visited a great many interesting places but often went through farmyards and across fields of livestock. I’m not keen on either, having had many a bad scare from territorial dogs and angry looking bulls before. So I decided to do some research and see if I could re-create the idea of the route, and change it’s course in some key areas. The idea of doing a long distance walk on my doorstep was too tempting to refuse, especially as I was mid way through making lots of circular historic walks in West Yorkshire. I have now finished the route plan, and will be blogging about my progress as I go. I shall write up Part One this week and put a video on YouTube. I’m also on Instagram as lead_for_a_living where you can upload your photos and tag me if you wish to follow as I go!
